We’re releasing a few packets of some exciting new varieties that we think should do well, but haven’t tested fully yet, as a crowd-sourced trial across the country. Join in with our research and try these interesting new veg – if enough people email to say they’re great, we’ll add them to the catalogue permanently. Everyone who works here is a gardener, so we know what you want – we only offer really good seeds.
Our varieties have been chosen from hundreds of trials & taste-tests on our seed farm here in Wales.

We work hard to choose good varieties and grow good seed – we take pride in supplying the best available. We test all our seed both before and after packing to international standards. And we’re audited by the government every year.

We guarantee our seeds for one year from purchase.
If you are in any way not completely happy with your seeds, plants, or even the taste of the resulting crop, we will cheerfully replace your seed or refund your money – whichever you prefer.

We specialise in varieties that do really well and taste great when grown on a garden scale – a catalogue of real seeds for real gardeners wanting to grow proper vegetables.

Because all are open-pollinated (non-hybrid), if you wish you can even save your own vegetable seed
for future years, using the instructions we supply. There’s no need to buy new seed every year.

Beautiful Paper Packets

To reduce plastic waste, we use paper envelopes, and small runs are packed by hand using these brass scoops we made ourselves. We also have two of the last existing Ballard-Brown seed packing machines. Weighing 1000lb in cast iron and brass, and built a hundred and twenty years ago, these amazing devices have been in constant use ever since.

Invented by Mr H. H. Cummings in 1884, it picks up and opens a paper packet, puts in the seed, glues the flap, folds it over and stacks them neatly in a wooden tray. They do this once a second, and can fill thousands of packets in a day, accurate to +/- 0.1 grams! Originally steam powered, ours are now run by an electric motor.

We designed our own beautiful paper packets, inspired by the Art Nouveau works of Mucha.
The 1880’s-pattern envelopes are made for us in Scotland, using a reproduction envelope-cutter we designed as well.
